What is European Youth Week?
European Youth Week creates a space for discussion on topics that matter to young people. It's also a time to celebrate success stories and to showcase European opportunities for Youth organisations and young people.
The week takes place from 24 to 30 May 2021 all across Europe. It aims to foster youth participation by engaging, connecting and empowering young people. It also aims to promote the new Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes which run from 2021 to 2027.
The theme of European Youth Week 2021 is “Our Future in Our Hands”. Discussions are focused on topics important to young people:
Active Participation in Society
at local, regional, national, or European level? How can digital tools help? What is the EU Youth Strategy’s role in engaging, connecting and empowering young people? What are the new Erasmus+ Youth Participation Activities about?
Inclusion and Diversity
Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps include young people with fewer
Climate Change, Environmental Protection and Sustainability
European Solidarity Corps? How can young people get involved in projects promoting environmental protection, fighting climate change or promote sustainable living?
Health and Recovery

What is Happening in Ireland?
We've got some great events happening in Ireland during European Youth Week. Be sure to sign up and connect with young people who care about making a positive change to their community and their world. Into Our Mayhem Festival

Organised by Galway Community Circus
This online talk for young people is organised by Galway Community Circus, as part of their 'Into Our Mayhem' festival. It explores Youth Circus and the benefits of European Solidarity Corps for organisations. Hear from volunteers about the difference the programme has made to their lives.

Organised by Crosscare Youth Information Service
The Youth Information Chat Service will be available all week to offer online support and advice on how to access European opportunities. The service is open to 16-25 year olds, parents and people who work with young people.
'Healthy Connections in a Disconnected World' Photography Competition
Location: Online
Organisers: The event is the joint work of three organisations: Tipperary Comhairle na nÓg, Clare Youth Services, Voluntary Service International (VSI) and two Eurodesk Ambassadors: Natasha and Maria
This week-long competition focuses on Health and Recovery with a link to young people’s mental health. It will be an online photography exhibition where young people from across Ireland can submit digital photographs that relate to the title ‘Healthy Connections in a Disconnected World.’ All contributions will be accepted and exhibited and there will be prizes awarded to 6 young people.

Minority Voices shaping and creating our equal and inclusive future
Location: Online | Time: 18:00 - 21:00
This event will engage, connect and empower young people across Europe while exploring the theme of inclusion and diversity with a particular focus on minority ethnic groups and/or migrant young people. This event is centered on showcasing grass roots youth initiatives from marginalised/minority groups and will also look at opportunities on offer for young people in Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps.
Starting the Conversation on Climate Action

This online workshop for young people is organised by Limerick Youth Service, KDYS Youth Information and Kildare Youth Service. It explores the theme of fast fashion awareness in relation to climate action.

This information session for young people is organised by Limerick Youth Service. It explores Discover EU, and explains how young people can travel around Europe through Discover EU supports.

Europe & You: Make Your Voice Heard
Location: Online | Time: 12:00 - 13:00
Organised by Léargas and NYCI and European Commission Representation in Ireland
This event is for young people interested in learning about the EU and how it is relevant to them. With the help of a facilitator and youth leader, we will explore issues of importance to young people in their daily lives. Using the European Youth Goals, we will look at how young people can have their voices heard on these issues, at local, national and European level.
Solidarity, Sustainability and Resilience: Responding to the Climate Change and Ecological Emergency

Organised by Léargas and Sustainability Ireland
This event is for young people interested in responding to the climate change and ecological emergency and is brought to you in collaboration between Sustainability Ireland and the European Solidarity Corps team in Léargas.

Our Fair Planet

Organisers: Clare Youth Services
This community initiative is part of the Our Fair Planet programme. A group of young people will be facilitated to plan and carry out an initiative of their own choosing related to the themes of European Youth Week.
European Youth Week Nights
Location: Youth Work Ireland - Tipperary
Organisers: Youth Work Ireland - Tipperary
Tipperary Youth Service will host a quiz night for youth club members to learn about Europe. They will also host an event on the European Solidarity Corps with returned volunteer Natasha on the topic of volunteering abroad. There will be a wellness evening, a climate quiz via Zoom and a cooking class to make a dessert from Fair Trade ingredients.

Online Pizza Party
Location: Online
Organisers: Ballyfermot Youth Service
Ballyfermot Youth Service will have an online Pizza Party and discuss with Irish participants the opportunities available under Erasmus+. Italian and Maltesse partners will join the party. The focus will be on inclusion and diversity and how Erasmus+ can contribute to young peoples' lives.
